happy 75th birthday viewmaster!

last week was viewmaster's 75th birthday so i wanted to devote a few posts to this portland native toy invented by william b. gruber ~

this vintage 40's viewer was less of a toy & more of a cool novelty ~

made by the sawyer company here in portland, it was a more modern version of the old victorian stereoscopic viewers & used reels to show 3d views of local scenic points of interest such as the columbia river highway & multnomah falls & other spots we like such as these in my own album ~

& the long gone lambert gardens ~

vintage reels ~

the complete list of reels available was not very long at that time ~

interestingly, it all started at the oregon caves ~

it would soon become a classic toy we all remember ~

gumby stuff

some more gumby stuff today ~

gumby & pokey soap ~

with bittys inside ~

also i just bought this little lot of gumby figures on ebay.. the reason they're special is because they were burger king prizes back when the new adventures first came out in 1988.. i posted some here once, but i was missing pokey, & my blockhead was in poor shape.. (i've included a newer gumby bitty for size comparison) ~

i still have items on my gumby want list.. i don't have a gumby costume yet for instance ~

also i'm a fan of viewmaster which was invented here in oregon, & i always wished there'd been more gumby reels like these ~

these were from the new adventures with scenes from kid brother kids & kangaroo express ~

also my friend jeff w. sent me these kubrick boxes since he had extras, i have yet to collect these because they're always pricey ~

here's my holy grail :) ~

i still believe i'll stumble across one of these someday in a collectible shop or estate sale ~

someone else sent me this photo of the vintage gumby on the seawall down at shark's cove in cali that i'd like to see :)
also i wonder if these giant roadside gumby & pokey are still up in norco? does anyone know?

remember the new gumby comic comes out july 5th!!

all new series 8 had special sparkley bordered cards included ~

2004 packs had these random window clings included ~

or tattoos ~

yeah everyone wants a slop tarts tattoo right? ~

don't apply to eyes.. lol ~

kenner give a show projector

today's toy is a cool vintage give-a-show projector ~

made by kenner in 1964 ~

this plastic projector takes D batteries ~

& it works with 35 mm slides ~

it's like a fancy flashlight ~

not unlike viewmaster projectors i've posted up in the past ~

turn off the lights ~

this set features 16 tv kid's show stars ~

popeye's on the box but i've seen other versions as well ~

let's watch bozo the clown ~

or captain kangaroo ~

my favorite is casper the friendly ghost ~

mr magoo ~

& there are a bunch of other vintage favorites here too ~

lost & found toy blog birthday!

hi & welcome to the lost & found vintage toy blog ~

i'm bren, & this is my anniversary post, i've tried to post a toy, children's book or collectible every day since i started this site & i hope to continue to do so indefinitely. i collect vintage toys, books & pop culture items, including holiday, retro or even contemporary toys that i particularly like. i have a website called gumbyland that i've maintained for many years, since my biggest collection is of the 50's character gumby! i also paint & write & create art installations, dollscapes, miniature houses & digital art so i have a gallery of my art up at gumbyland for anyone interested. there are links in the sidebar & footer to all my different sites & pages.

i try to find all the toys & books i lost in childhood, & whenever i mention the nickname 'toxic' i am referring to my own inner child (& yeah i am a little bit dysfunctional.) also i've been known on the web for years as 'ghost' since i like to photograph old cemeteries.. if you're looking for a particular toy or item please try the search box & the categories list in the sidebar, although i've found neither seems to really work to find all of the items i've posted, so you might want to peruse through the archives. also i try to go back & update old posts where appropriate so check back. you can ask questions anywhere in the comments, i am usually able to answer by the following day.. vintage kids & nostalgia buffs please feel free to comment on any of the posts new or old & share your memories here.. my toy room has changed since i first started posting, so here's an updated look ~
