i've decided to devote a good chunk of november to tolkien items as today is the release of the new extended edition dvd/bluray of the last film so far in the series by peter jackson, the hobbit: an unexpected journey ~

lord of the rings trilogy special gift editions with minas tirith & the argonath sculptures included ~

as any serious tolkien fan knows these extended editions are the only sets to have since they are generously packed with bonus material ~

the lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring from 2001 ~

the lord of the rings: the two towers from 2002 ~

yeah, safe to say we are huge tolkien fans at our house ~

this box set came with a smeagol/gollum sculpture ~

he's 7" tall ~

isn't he precious ~

the rock and pool is nice and cool so juicy sweet!
our only wish to catch a fish so juicy sweet! ~

the lord of the rings: the return of the king from 2003 ~

we saw the hobbit: an unexpected journey of course when it first came out.. at that time denny's ran a promotion giving away collectible cards & although we didn't eat their hobbit styled meals, we did acquire the set on ebay ~

tolkien time is only just beginning..

kids' meal toys

so i mentioned in yesterday's post how my inner kid is going through happy meal toy withdrawls these days ~

since we're not out collecting as we use to & hitting the fast food lunch spots for toys & prizes ~

there was a time when, if i didn't get a toy, i didn't eat ;) ~

we've been eating kids' meals since before my son was even born ~

for all the cool collectible toys ~

& then through my son's childhood we went through every collector phase ~

burger king pokemon trader nights down in socal were a blast ~

the power rangers & lord of the rings crazes ~

& all the great halloween themed happy meals like this one which included vhs tapes! ~

jack in the box casper buckets <3 ~

carl's jr kids treat bags ~

my son's favorite was always wienerschnitzel ever since he was tiny ;) ~

back when they gave out little golden books as prizes :) ~

our fright lights were well used too ~

mcd happy meal mcnugget buddies ~

we loved going to all the good movies ~

& then collecting all the associated prizes ~

as you can see we went a bit overboard at times! ~

but again we have such fun memories associated with our collection ~

i got to relive childhood alongside my son <3 ~

classics ~

giant 'you & me' happy meals for you & your child together :D ~

we kinda miss in & out burgers ~

but we have our own pnw equivelent up here ~

burgerville ~

nature friendly prizes ;) ~

there's also firehouse subs ~

quizno's & boston market ~

we used to go to chicfila, but no longer :( ~

taco bell, jack in the box, dairy queen ~

sonic, wendy's, kfc & little caeser's ~

every place had kids' meals with toys ~

because, right? ~

but i fear the days of kids' meal toys galore may be ending? ~

i'm so glad we rode that wave all through my son's era ~

& saved all our treasures too ;) ~

theme parks had kids' meal collectibles as well ~

looking back i had certain favorites ~

hello kitty & monster high of course ~

i ate my fair share of chicken nuggets that's for sure! ~

& subway sandwiches ~

disney ~

books, audiobooks & cd/roms were always a good score ~

listening library ~

oz & alice ~

including madame alexander dolls ~

lost & found toys

i had a dream last night about kid's meals & prizes ~

& i woke up with a realization ~

as a life-long collector i've been going through happy meal toy withdrawls! ~

i always use to say, if i don't get a toy, i don't eat ;) ~

we don't venture out to estate sales, library sales, fcbds, collectible shops & fast-food places much anymore ~

so i'm reduced to finding my treasure by boredshopping online these days ~

my guilty pleasure? ~

among my other creative projects ~

even our home is retro ~

of course ~

happiness is a box of books ;) ~

but it got me thinking of all the cool memories i have associated with all the years of assembling the lost & found toys blog & gumbyland ~

the unexpected finds! ~

the thrill of the hunt, never knowing what you might discover :D ~

toxic was a collector but she lost most of her old possessions over the years ~

finding & enjoying vintage toys has been a blast! ~

it is like a time machine ~

so i'm an eccentric toy collector, journaler, librarian, photographer, artist, writer, catlady filmmaker? lol ~

actually anymore i just think of myself as a nostalgia archivist ~

geology rocks!

continuing with where i left off yesterday ~

so i first met the sasquatch i married back in socal in an honors geology field course ~

so yeah, we're rockhounds! ~

i was 16 & he was one of the prof's older students driving one of the class vans for us ;) ~

i'd ride shotgun, smoking my cigarette & looking out the window at all the cool natural scenes thinking.. i could get use to this! ;) ~

i think back of those times now as 'husband tryouts' ;) ~

on our first actual date together he gave me a love letter & ancient barnacle fossils he'd found down in mexico ~

so that sealed the deal & here we still are together 40 years later <3 ~

we keep jasper in this jar by the butterfly box ~

this rock tumbler makes them nice & smooth ~

lately we've added additional different stones to fill the jar ~

more tiny treasures ;) ~

toxic always loved pants with lots of pockets for tucking cool pebbles & other tiny things she'd find ~

this trilobyte fossil in mr dad's room is the oldest thing in our collection ;) ~

i found these cool trays for him to display his finds ~

& they filled up quickly ~

with crystals & agates he had tucked away in the garage ~

it's always fun to go out rockhunting with mr dad ~

he knows his stuff ~

today i want to wish him a happy day of the dad! ~

here's hoping we'll be out soon looking for more rocks & stones in cool places ~

here's a cool little handful i picked up last trip out, all washed & varnished ~

i've been known to paint some of these too ~

so here's a cool update as well to a post i made back in may here ~

john's old friends not only left my tolkienstone on tolkien's grave for us all, but they brought back 2 stones from his grave too! so i painted one similarly with tolkien's famous sig & it will now reside on our tolkien shelf in a place of honor :) ~
