gumby news! ~
the latest gumby dvds have been released ~
volume 2 of the new adventures from the 1980s ~
sadly, it doesn't seem like this last set is going to include any bendy toys ~
but it is good to complete the entire collection ~
included on these dvds is one of my favorite episodes, rip van prickle ~
in which an aged prickle wakes up to a strange world after a very long nap ~
it seems pokey is ceo of his own delivery company ~
with granny working as his receptionist ~
& goo is secretary of state! (a vast improvement on reality, wouldn't you say?) ~
but sadly, no one seems to recognize or remember poor prickle ~
gumby is of course president of the united states & has a wonderful green plan for the country & to benefit the world (if only..) ~
the secret service hauls off prickle ~
but wait, he really wakes up in the end ~
to a little good natured ribbing from his friends ~

this is a repost from 5 years ago called oh captain, my captain!..
like the rest of the world today the death of robin williams is only just sinking in here ~
there have been 3 suicides that have really affected me in my life, kurt cobain, elliott smith & now it seems robin williams ~
remembering back, there was always that serious side of him that i admired so much in his films ~
& of course all the fun he delivered to us all so easily that i think we may have taken him for granted ~
dead poet's society, good will hunting, what dreams may come, toys, jumanji, A.I., the world according to garp, popeye, hook, mrs doubtfire, rv, good morning vietnam.. from the old days & mork from ork or his improvs with johnathan winters to his disney voices & the crazy ones ~
i have found myself feeling so sad that someone of his caliber could have reached such a point to end up a suicide ~
as someone who has struggled with depression all my life i understand.. & maybe out of this tragedy will come a broader awareness of depression, suicide & addiction, but the world has lost one of the good ones..

p.s. toxic remembers wearing her rainbow suspenders covered in pins & buttons through so much of jr high but like most everything else they were lost over the years..
