so i was commenting at my other blog about our 'altar of eclectica' ~

this wall unit that mr dad & i bought for $200 way back in the early 80s has come a long way with us ~

& over the years has become known fondly as the altar of eclectica :) ~

in its early days it held books & home taped vhs tapes, our old zody's stereo & the original evil jolly chimp (who i've posted about here) ~

it has always been there in the background through the different places we lived over the last several decades ~

& it has changed & evolved & had many different incarnations ~

all gumby mode for my appearance at collector's corner ;) ~

here's an old family get together down in socal with the a of e included ~

our kitties were always so good & left my collectibles alone <3 ~

i've always loved having it right over my shoulder to look at because every tiny treasure has an associated memory with it :) ~

i tend to stand in front of it whenever i'm getting photo'd ~

so the altar of eclectica basically is a bookshelf, there are art, poetry, horror & classic literature books in the back ~

with tiny treasures of all sorts in front ~

top shelf toys include american mcgee's alice, tolkien & tophats ~

one halloween of old ~

behind raven & sabrina are dedicated nightmare before christmas collectibles including a vampire shelf ~

there's a psych shelf, kids stuff shelf & one for collector card notebooks ~

the latest incarnation includes a wonderland shelf, a halloweeniana shelf & one for kitties & mystical items, as well as a stephen king & zombies shelf ~

i've used the a of e as a backdrop for many of my 'dollscapes' over the years, like 'gumby in christmas crisis' (link in the sidebar) ~

my ghost toy catalogue includes a shelf by shelf close-up breakdown ~
