this is a flashback friday favorite post from one of my very first posts here at the lost & found in the summer of 2012, my birthday to be exact, & features one of my most loved toys ~
it's our birthday today, so we chose this little vintage birthday bear. i don't know too much about him, except that he's segmented & seems to be mohair, he's 7 1/2" tall, & his only marking is a felt tag on the back with 'JM 03' on it.
the reason i call him a birthday bear though, is because he has a ribbon around his neck with a tiny vintage pinback button on it..
the button is 3/4" across & has a candle on it, & reads 'in remembrance of your birthday'..
the reverse of the pinback reads ~
David C. Cook Publishing Co.
Elgin New York Boston
assuming the ribbon & button are original to the bear, it seems the maker is someone who made sunday school supplies starting back in the late 1800's & eventually also made games & toys as well..
he is a sweet little guy & one of our favorite toys..
update: have you ever had your birthday forgotten? see this birthday bear featured in one of my dollscapes up at the ghost gallery here called lost toys.. (go oldschool with a pc or laptop & firefox or google chrome browser so the music will play.. phones & tablets steal it away)
