i made a major gumbyland score this weekend :D ~
i found the car that gumby & pokey had several of their adventures in! when they came up against the blockheads in 'even steven' or discovered dinosaurs in 'hidden valley' it was in this car ~
it's called the flying dutchman & it was made by remco toys back in the 60s ~
& i just happened to find one mint in box yesterday ~
i've been looking for a good one for gumbyland for literally years ~
they do come up on ebay but in varying levels of condition & price ~
since it's quite large in the box shipping is also a cost consideration ~
i just got lucky & found one here locally ~
every boy wants a remco toy... & so do girls! ~
mr dad was just as excited as i was to find it ~
original price $10.94 ~
it takes 4 D batteries to operate ~
& has a cool working headlight ~
set the controls ~
there's a handle with line connected to keep control of it that probably came in handy using it in gumby's original stop motion adventures ~
instructions ~
another fun addition to gumbyland!
even steven & hidden valley ~
& vintage sav-on ad.. toxic loved her local sav-on store! ~

WOW!!! What a score! You must have been so excited when you found it! I'm curious, if you don't mind telling me, how much did it cost you? This is the first time I have ever left a comment on a blog or whatever this is called and I admit that I know nothing about them or how they work but I just had to tell you how excited I was for you! Happy hunting in your future! Pam

hi pam,
i paid an astoundingly reasonable $45, on ebay the shipping cost alone for such a large item would've been half that.. i've seen these on ebay going for upwards of $300 so it was well worth the wait :)
thanks for commenting!

Somewhere I had read that the Remco Flying Dutchman car was based on a real car. Have you read or found anything on that?

dan, i had not, but i wonder if there might be anything about it in the gumby imagined book? i'll have to pull that out & read up :)

FYI..I have two of these cars..not as nice as yours. But researching the item revealed it is a fairly accurate model of a 1904 Spyker Open Touring Car. Spyker (Spyjker) built cars and aircraft in Holland..hence Remco's "Flying Duchman" name.
