so who is your favorite b movie host? ~
i usually save these kinds of posts for october, but summer has worn out its welcome here, it was 104 yesterday & reminds me in part why we left socal, so i'm trying to bring autumn to us sooner by sheer force of will, thinking of halloween now ~
these are vintage ads from the tv guide in la for the movie macabre hosted by elvira mistress of the dark, who i've always liked ~
i used to tape these back in the vhs days, then later transferred them to dvd ~
favorites included:
now you can see elvira's movie macabre on hulu ~
another blast from the past, i still have my commander usa fan club membership card ~
besides groovy movies usa also had nightflight & up all night with gilbert gottfried ~
i found this old image on the internet ~
meanwhile the tnt channel had monstervision with joe bob briggs, here's his recipe for motel hell salsa (a true favorite that i first saw at the drive-in..) ~
our playroom dvd shelves are full of homemade b movie classics we love, some classic for being so campy & bad, & some really good old horror & sci-fi thrillers we remember from childhood ~
some b&w photos from a few favorites ~
christopher lee in the creeping flesh ~
peter cushing in frankenstein must be destroyed ~
dana andrews in the frozen dead ~
bad movies nowadays just don't have the same charm as the ones we saw growing up going to the drive-in, & a fun host provides a laugh (& a break in the scariness factor when you're a kid..) ~
toxic remembers watching thriller movies on tv in the middle of the night when friends would sleepover, the best were night of the living dead & the thing that couldn't die ~
but there a too many good ones to mention, the screaming skull, phantom creeps, basket case & basket case 2 ~
mystery science theater 3000 was very popular & always a lot of nerdy fun ~
my favorite mst3k flick was the incredibly strange creatures who stopped living & became mixed up zombies filmed at the old Pike amusement park in toxic's old hometown of long beach, cali ~
an honorable mention to reel wild cinema which was hosted by sandra bernhard.. but there's only one good b movie host left that i watch & that's svengoolie on metv ~
p.s. i wouldn't want to forget sctv's monster chiller horror theater with count floyd!

Boy, I miss Monstervision. I've been enjoying watching Svengoolie on NJ's MeTV channel. Such a ham on rye, but pretty funny.I miss Zacherley's wackiness.

i'm just amazed that svengoolie seems to pull out some old movies that i had never seen.. thought i'd seen them all..

I love Svengoolie of course, but classics like Sir Cecil Creape, Elvira, and Zacherly hold a soft squishy part in my cardiac area.
