like the rest of the world today the death of robin williams is sinking in here ~
3 suicides have really affected me in my life, kurt cobain, elliott smith & now it seems robin williams ~
there was always that serious side of him that i admired so much in his films ~
& of course all the fun he delivered to us all so easily that i think we may have taken him for granted ~
dead poet's society, good will hunting, what dreams may come, toys, jumanji, A.I., the world according to garp, popeye, hook, mrs doubtfire, rv, good morning vietnam.. from the old days & mork from ork or his improvs with johnathan winters to his disney voices & the crazy ones ~
i have found myself feeling so sad that someone of his caliber could have reached such a point to end up a suicide ~
as someone who has struggled with depression all my life i understand.. & maybe out of this tragedy will come a broader awareness of depression, suicide & addiction, but the world has lost one of the good ones..
bren
p.s. toxic remembers wearing her rainbow suspenders covered in pins & buttons through so much of jr high but like most everything else they were lost over the years..
i found these vintage mork from ork keychains recently..
Love the title of this blog post of yours, Bren. Thanks for sharing the link in your response to me on your bookmarks post. I miss Robin Williams so much. =( Mork was always my favorite character that he played. =( This world was a much better place with him in it, but I understand why he did what he did. I wish typepad would allow photos here and I'd post my pinback buttons. I think I had them on my Flickr, but know they're on my facebook page, so will try to put them on my Instagram. I hate that, since I have to "trick" the computer into thinking it's a cell phone to post one.

i feel the same about robin williams :( so sad, but i get it, & he's the perfect icon for mental health awareness, comes up on twitter for that alot & i always like or retweet.. do you have twitter? easy to tweet images to others, but yeah then they're public, i guess i'm use to that with all these years of gumbyland..

I don't have twitter, but figure it's also more for cell phone users (?) I'm really thinking the world is not very understanding still about depression, anxiety or any other kind of emotional or mental health issue, but maybe I'm wrong, but I'm also in a very negative and pessimistic mood lately.

Just posted them on Instagram and got them both in the same post. I didn't know how to post photos in one post before now, but figured it out....I think!

oh my! i can see i've missed alot on insta, i should update mine & try posting multiple pix that way too, never have before.. i've always been able to post everything to twitter using my laptops over the years, since i've never owned a smartphone.. twitter autoposts all my blog posts for me too..
i loved the serious side of robin williams <3

Maybe I will have to try Twitter then =)
I loved his silly Mork side the most, since that was his character that made me laugh so much, but I did love him in Good Will Hunting and Dead Poet's Society too. That side of his acting made me cry. Did you ever see The Fisher King? He was such a good actor in all his roles though.

i don't think i have? i'll have to look for it next time we have netflix? as dark as it was, i loved him in one hour photo, & what dreams may come..

I can't think of What Dreams May Come is about. I'll have to look it up and yes, One Hour Photo was good too, but yes, dark. Yes, look up The Fisher King, but make sure you're in the right frame of mind to watch it. Sometimes I just can't deal with watching stuff any more like I used to be able to. I used to watch Criminal Minds, CSI and Law and Order and those kinds of shows, but can't any more. I tried to reply to you on my Instagram post, but I can't figure it out and I still can't see the comments on posts that I've commented on or reply to replies. I can like the comments and posts and make a comment, but don't know how to do anything else! HaHa!

PS I forgot to tell you that I love your photo of you standing on the desk (table) for this post. <3 <3 <3

yep i stepped right up on my kitchen table :D <3

we use to watch csi & criminal minds too, but those shows went on so long didn't it seem like the plots/crimes were getting so unbelievable as they were running out of ideas? lol noticed there's new csi though, we may check those out? i don't watch scary movies anymore, & that's saying alot because we use to watch them all.. for some reason walking dead & fear the walking dead never bother me because when you've watched it for years the undead are just like a background for what the people are having to live with, you know? it's more the story of the living..
i also have the same problems with insta, i never get notified if i have a message or reply to a comment, i can comment but can't see other comments (because i'm not on mobile & can't scroll down??)
same warning with what dreams may come, be in the mood to deal with the subject of something dark.. i am weird in that i have the same super sensitivity to like 'good energy' in houses, just like we talked once about with old toys? at times i've been in a house at an estate sale & felt the most positive energy ever, like i would like to just sit in that room/house by myself & soak in that security feeling or good feeling whatever it is..? i love houses. it borders on some kind of fetish.. haha.. not like a voyeur or to steal anything, i just get it when robin's character sneaks in that house in one hour photo.. & takes all those nice safe photos.. :) yeah i am a weirdo.

p.s. he's trending on twitter right now! :)

Your kitchen table and photo are perfect! <3
I will have to join Twitter!... I can find posts sometimes and see them, but not read all of the comments. I had found a post that Jeff had tagged you in about getting his gumby book from Japan when I was researching about Gumby in Japan and saw his photos and felt so stupid after seeing the picture showing the Prickle pin! I had thought that Prickle pin I got was the first one and here there was one made close to it about 20 years ago! Neither you or Jeff corrected me, so I thought maybe you didn't want me feeling like an idiot! HaHa! :D
Posted by: Sally | 12/06/2021 at 01:18 PM
no! you know japan always has cool stuff way before anywhere else in the world, they had an entire gumby store like decades ago, they love all that kind of stuff there & we rarely get to even see it, i love that prickle pin, you can see yourself how hard it can be to get some of these things like the gumby vampire pin! did you notice even the gumbyworld store is gone this xmas!?
:(
Posted by: ghost | 12/06/2021 at 04:49 PM
I still feel SO foolish, because of all of that stuff sold there (some made in China like the stuff sold here in the US is made in China) that I had NO clue even existed! :D.... Of course, I wanted some of it and had to get some after I knew it existed! HaHa! :D
Yes, I wonder why the Gumby store is closed again?! Russel had mentioned it. I thought maybe it was due to the pandemic and not having the staff to fulfill the orders right now. The vampire pins were back, but I forgot and didn't order one!
