toxic grew up with pong & atari & classic arcade games at chuck e. cheese, but the game that finally came along & got us hooked for life was shadowgate for nes ~
nintendo entertainment system ~
mr dad got an nes system for his birthday & hooked it up out in the driveway in our camper to play mario, but i discovered shadowgate & spent my nights out in that camper trying to beat it ~
at first i could only rent the game because i couldn't afford to buy it ~
but then one glorious day i found an ad in the local pennysaver that someone was selling their lot of nes games & guides cheap, so i snagged them & the rest is history ~
this little instruction booklet that came with the game wasn't much help when you really found yourself stuck bad ~
that's where this hint book saved my heiny ~
what was great about this book is that it doesn't just give you answers.. i mean after all your effort you don't want spoilers, just a subtle hint to get you back on the right path ~
so the book is laid out to only give you varying degrees of hints ~
i think i only used one hint ~
this guide is vintage & rare to find so i'm posting the pages here ~
the music in shadowgate is extremely memorable ~
it's definitely my favorite of the old original nes d&d rpg style games ~
the screen & tune that played each time you died even becomes a favorite ~
i'm glad to have gotten so much enjoyment from these old games before graphics & technology improved so much, because i think younger players might have a hard time going back & appreciating them? i' m oldschool i guess ~
but it seems now there's a kickstarter project for a remake that should be out very soon? ~
more vintage videogames all month long!
