it also has a little bit longer version of little black sambo ~
little black sambo by helen bannerman is about a little south indian boy ~
i remember this story fondly as an oral story told to us by my great grandmother ~
but there is controversy surrounding it & the title can be considered a racial slur nowadays ~
also the illustrations in american versions seem to reflect more african american characters than south indian ones.. if you were an african american child in the 30's or 40's was it good to at least see black characters represented in your coloring book? or was it stereotypical & offensive as we may see it today? i don't know. i just know i loved hearing the story the way my great grandmother told it, & she was someone who served Everyone with the same hospitality at her ice-cream/lunch counter during those segregation years ~
i choose to include the story in my post & hope no one is offended ~
a cinderella-like story about an extremely virtuous young lady ~
the original author of this story is not certain ~
first published by john newbery in the 1700's ~
ghost & toxic
